The Water & Wastewater Division produces and distributes potable water from six deep wells. The water supply is supplemented with treated water from the City of Waco and Bluebonnet Water Supply Corp. Water is treated and distributed in accordance with the rules established by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The city has the capacity to produce 4.09 million gallons per day from city wells and maintains 7.580 million gallons of ground storage capacity. Wholesale supplemental water is contracted at a minimum rate based on an average of the city’s usage over the last three years.

Stormwater Pollution Prevention

When it rains, it pours- motor oil, fertilizer, pet wastes, and other pollutants end up in the storm water runoff that goes down the storm drains.  Unlike the wastewater that comes from our homes, storm water runoff does not receive treatment before it enters larger waterways.  That’s why it’s important to dispose of oil properly and to use garden chemicals in accordance with their labels.  The Community Services and Development Department is responsible for administering the City’s storm water permit with the Environmental Protection Agency.  (The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is expected to take on permit oversight from the EPA in the near future).  This permit details the steps the city will take to help prevent and mitigate the impact non-point source pollutants have on our receiving waters. For any questions on stormwater prevention, please contact Community Services and Development at 254.772.4050.
